A revision of one of our really old songs (from our first year), that ended up becoming very popular here in Thunder Bay. It started as a joke, actually. Chuck had been dipping his toe into some Ska waters, and we had just gotten back from our first summer off (what with Chuck going to school in Waterloo). Itching for heavy tunes as well as trying new things, Chuck had the fairly silly idea of saying "what if War was a Ska song?" (War being the song's original title, as part of our idealistic but ultimately just sort of quaint 20 minute Four Horsemen Suite, which is now gutted and no longer worth playing). So we jammed it, I grabbed my horn, and decided that it would be funny if we did the song with the Ska section jammed in the middle instead of a chorus. We thought we'd get some grizzled old vet in the back of the bar show his approval for our cheekiness, and that would be it. However, we didn't really anticipate that people would actually like it, which is what happened. Still our most popular song. Our single, so to speak! Ha. Some great things about this band started as a joke. Dave joining the band was initially a joke. Chuck, Jacob, and I were shootin' the shit in Chuck's basement one day around the same time as the aforementioned events, and Chuck's basement is always equipped with a guitar lying around. At the time, our guitar player had told us he was going to leave the band at the end of the summer as well, and we wanted to start training a replacement by playing some shows with two guitar players. Dave was noodling around, and Chuck and I sorta remembered that Dave was pretty good at guitar. I jokingly said "hey Dave, wanna be in a band?" Realising, as I said it, that that was an awesome idea, I looked over at Chuck and he thought the exact same thing. And, of course, the rest is history.
Oh. By the way. It's a TROMBONE. NOT A TRUMPET. NOT A SAXOPHONE. T-R-O-M-B-O-N-E. THEY'RE VERY COMMON INSTRUMENTS. If I laugh when you tell me you really liked the trumpet song, it's not in approval or amusement. I'm laughing AT you. That is all.
P.S. - The original lyrics were just shitty generi-metal anti-war blubberings, so I wrote some about fighting with my dad, which ended up being only slightly better than their predecessors. Enjoy!

Close shut your mind
Ignore all that is said
Logic and reason
Are long dead
Man against man
Rejection of nobility
Unknowingly but willingly
Abandon civility
